The cause of the latest flooding
August 13, 2010
The National Weather Service has posted an analysis of the
rain that fell between Sunday and early Wednesday morning, which in turn led to the incredible flooding affecting Ames right now. There are several areas, including the north side of Ames and parts just south of Colfax, which received more than 10" of rain in just 72 hours. That is more than
twice the ordinary monthly total for rainfall in August in this area, all in just three days. There are widespread areas where
bypass pumping operations have been put into full effect, in addition to the widespread need for flooding cleanup.
